My Uncle Tom, son of James and Mary Ann Smith was born in Blackheath, London on 21-08-1908. After his mother died in 1918 he was placed in an orphanage near Bolton, Lancashire where he would have remained until about 1922. After leaving the orphanage he lost touch with the rest of the family. I have recently learned that he emigrated to Australia. Would be very grateful for any information.
